Chinese Vs. Indian Diamonds
Hey everyone!
I was wondering if anyone knew if there was any difference between diamonds that are lab grow in India vs China?
It seems like all the cheap lab grown diamond prices that we see from the varying websites online (loose grown diamonds, StoneAiGo websites, etc) are all Indian grown diamonds. And their certificates also all say “This Laboratory Grown Diamond was created by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) growth process and may include post-growth treatment. Type IIa”
Whereas all of the Chinese lab diamonds I see all say as grown on the certificates and say “As Grown - No indication of post-growth treatment. This laboratory grown diamond was created by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) growth process. Type IIa”
The diamonds that I am looking for are 4 carat, F color, VS2 clarity, Ideal cut.
I’m able to get prices as low as $1,800 from loose grown diamonds and stoneaigo affiliate websites, but when I ask the Chinese makers (starsgem, Provence, tianyu) the lowest I can get them to go is $2,300.
We all know that usually buying direct from the Chinese makers is much cheaper, so why are they not in this case?
I’ve been hearing that it’s because the Indian diamonds are made really fast by CVD and then treated with HPHT to make the clarity and color to improve, which can then cause strain, darkness, and other issues which affects the diamonds look and shine, whereas the Chinese diamonds are grown slowly and so don’t need treatment and so don’t have some of the issues I just mentioned.
The videos of the diamonds I’m getting sent from the Chinese makers look really nice and a lot nicer than what I’m used to seeing, but I don’t know if that’s due to good video taking skills.
Anyways, my question is, are the diamonds from India for $1,800 with post growth treatment as good as the diamonds from China without post growth treatment for $2,300?
I know that it depends on the stone and the specs and all that. And you can find good and bad diamonds from both, but I’m just talking about the average diamond without going crazy specific. Given two diamonds with the same specs, would the Chinese one “usually” be better?
Thank you!
