Detailed Guide to contacting your elected representatives regarding DTE
DTE had massive outages in the face of a relatively common winter storm. As usual, they will be spreading bullshit about it being a once-in-a-century storm or something.
If you want to do something about it. I recommend contacting your elected representatives. They have failed us in this case, and I have let them know that this is a voting issue for me in upcoming elections.
If you wish to do the same, Here's a step-by-step. If not, have a nice day.
Contact your State Representative. Ann Arbor and surrounding areas are divided into State Congressional districts 23, 33, 47, and 48. So your State Rep is likely one of
- Jason Morgan (23rd District): JasonMorgan@house.mi.gov, (517) 373-0855
- Felicia Brabec: (33rd District), FeliciaBrabec@house.mi.gov, (517) 373-0820
- Carrie Rheingans (47th District): CarrieRheingans@house.mi.gov, (517) 373-8835
- Jennifer Conlin, JenniferConlin@house.mi.gov, (517) 373-7557
You can find out exactly at https://www.house.mi.gov/; or here are the maps for districts 23, 33, 47, and 48
- Give their office a call (yes, you can!) and leave a message telling them that you want to see action from them to hold DTE accountable for their poor service via the MPSC and legislation other means and to stop taking contributions from DTE (including dark money organizations like Michigan Energy First or through 527 accounts), or you will not vote for them at the next election
- Send them an email saying the same thing (this helps drive home the message)
- If possible, send them a letter via regular mail saying the same thing (letters have more impact than calls and emails because they are so uncommon)
Contact your State Senator. Ann Arbor and surrounding areas are divided into State Senate districts 14, and 15. So your State Senator is likely one of:
- Sue Shink (Senate District 14): 517-373-2426, sensshink@senate.michigan.gov
- Jeff Irwin (Senate District 15): 517-373-2406, senjirwin@senate.michigan.gov
You can find out exactly who your State Senator here: https://senate.michigan.gov/FindYourSenator/, or here are the maps for Senate District 14 and 15.
