My boyfriend isn't sure what a relationship should be like

He feels pressured to move in with me and have kids, he doesn't know what our relationship should look like, but most important he wants to be self-reliant and independent.

I feel at such a loss, I was hoping we could move in together some time. Is a relationship even realistic if he wants to be completely independent? The irony is, we see each other twice a week and it is really nice, I feel supported by him, I like being physically intimate with him. We have been seeing each other for two years and known each other for 7 years now, I did imagine this a bit different..
