The Cult

I entered the lab wing I had reserved, pulling the mobile cage filled with Venlil cattle behind me using two of my tentacles. I was in a great mood and despite the ordinary fatigue from my daily tasks, I was motivated. It only made sense that if I planned to bring new life into this world, I must more fully understand it. Interpreting the scriptures written into every living thing is my divine duty, so that I may lead my champions better.

The cattle were silent, and yet my thoughts were drawn to them as I glanced over my shoulder. I looked over them. Some did not flinch from my gaze as I did so, unlike the vast majority of tainted and some of the purified on this station.

“Is there anything left to salvage after all this taint?” I spoke aloud and wondered if I would find the answer to my question. The cattle did not respond, whether through learned helplessness or fear of getting my attention. Regardless, the Venlil that were not dead-eyed did react to my words with twitches of their ears or tails in some manner.

“I hope there is.” My purified volunteer said while standing beside me. I turned my attention toward him and felt the same nagging guilt that I did when I first searched for a volunteer.

I stopped walking and turned fully towards him, kneeling to be at almost eye-level with him. I had no issues with this because he was offering to volunteer for something immensely important, but I had to make sure he understood his choice.

“Kelesh, you do not have to do this.” I paused, looking for any adverse reaction from him but there were none. “Your faith is admirable, and while you will not survive…you will be remembered dearly.” I relented, standing back up to my full height and seeing that the resolve in his eyes was unwavering.

We reached the specific laboratory that I had prepared for today’s work, and the sound of the door sliding open cleared my thoughts. I pulled the cage inside and looked over all the prepared materials ranging from vials of my own venom to inky saliva.

I opened the cage and decided to start with the freshest cattle. “Do not struggle,” I warned as I moved all four of my tentacles into the cage. The Venlil cattle screamed and began flailing as I gripped their limbs and dragged them from the cage.

“Kelesh, please make sure the cameras are functioning, and that the audio is clear,” I said casually over my shoulder to my dutiful assistant.

I adjusted my grip on the cattle, holding their wrists together and letting their legs dangle so I could free two of my tentacles. I looked over the squirming Venlil as I contemplated how exactly I would begin this procedure.

I flexed my tendrils gently, just enough for the sawteeth to dig into the Venlil’s wrists. They cried out as their ineffectual kicking and writhing only caused the teeth to sink deeper. Orange blood began slowly staining the wool trapped under my tentacles.

“Be not afraid. You are going to die for something greater than yourself,” I reassured the tainted, and they began crying more as they squeezed their eyes shut to not see me. The taint is progressive, but its initial scale seems absolute only on the surface. I knew this well, as evidenced by the enlightenment of both the cattle-driving Arxur and the Kolshians upon this station.

“Please don't eat me, I don't want to die!” She began begging and revealing her freshness beyond the timestamp of her capture. Her whiny voice was gratingly irreverent, and I unconsciously tightened my grip to take my turn speaking.

“Why are you afraid of helping our enlightened herd?” I chose my words carefully, using the Federation’s terms against one of its own accursed. Her entire body shook with fear, and the orange blood began dripping down her arms.

She refused to respond, and I reached out towards her to grip her head. I carefully fought against her squirming and held her head still. “Open your eyes!” I demanded.

She winced as I forcefully pulled her eyelids open with my fingers, forcing her to look me in the eye. She began panting and then shrieked in desperation. “HELP ME!” She screamed at Kelesh, who looked away and tried to busy himself with anything else.

“ANSWER ME!” I tightened my grip too much and watched her fall to the floor with a loud thump. She writhed on the floor as blood flowed from the severed stumps of her wrists. She was trying to get up but kept slipping in her own blood from blind panic. I unfurled the two tentacles that had been holding her wrists, letting her hands fall to the floor before I grabbed two vials of my saliva.

“Pllheease-hh..hhk-” I used my tentacles to grab her arms again, not bothering to be gentle with the tainted. I opened the vials and poured the thick saliva onto her bleeding stumps. I could just as easily apply it bodily, but I don't need her passing out from me stuffing her arm in my mouth.

“You are not covered in as many burn scars as the other cattle. Is that from your freshness, or are you a quick learner?” I pondered aloud, no longer expecting an answer from the tainted beyond incoherent sobs. I grabbed a vial of my diluted venom and filled a syringe with it before jabbing it into the Venlil’s neck.

She flinched from the needle and whimpered pathetically as I depressed the plunger. Her breathing slowed audibly, but she seemed no less scared.

“No... no…I don't want to be a monster!” Her struggling renewed as the dose of venom robbed her of the comfortable blind fear she clung to like a pup.

I refilled the syringe and wrapped one of my free tentacles around her torso to completely ensnare her. I decided to push my theory to her limits and let the sawteeth dig into her flesh again before I spoke.

“Have you not seen how happy my followers are?” I flicked the syringe filled with the clear venom. Her eyes were locked onto it. “We can replace your hands, make you whole again…and you can be happy with us. You will be truly free. No more predators. No more prey.” I was rather confident that my speech would finally reach her, with the assistance of the venom.

She was silent for a long moment, “I don’t want to be a-”

I pulled the tentacle gripping her stomach back towards me, disemboweling her in one swift movement along with slashing her lungs. She tried to scream but her mouth was silently agape as her insides splashed wetly onto the floor. I pulled her arms opposite to each other and leaned forward to bite through her skull, cleaving through bone and brain matter effortlessly before swallowing.

I heard Kelesh flinch behind me, just a small gasp and I looked over my shoulder at him. His hands were shaking, and he did not meet my gaze and was instead staring at the corpse.

“You are allowed to freely speak, Kelesh.” I reminded him, I draped the corpse over an empty countertop as I waited for him to speak.

“Y-yes, Pure one…I—Why?” He stumbled over his words as he looked between me and the bleeding corpse.

“Why what?” I flicked some blood off my tentacles before turning my gaze back towards the cage full of cattle. The most tainted of them had barely moved, and the second freshest was staring at me with empty eyes as it realized it was next.

“Why did you kill her?” He finally clarified and had a note of standoffish bravery in his wavering voice.

“She was deeply tainted, and so she served as a means to an end,” I said carefully, studying Kelesh’s face to analyze his anxiousness.

“T-the dosage…sh-she felt all of that..”

“The tainted only respond to pain and fear. They are ruled mind and body by wild instincts.”

I gestured with my hands as I approached Kelesh, wanting to see the notes he had written during my procedure.

“Do you think she did not deserve salvation, that I should not have made her one with purity?” My steady tone slipped as frustration crept into my voice. I would not be doubted in such serious matters. I needed Kelesh to be my control group, but if even he was tainted, I would make him useful.

“N-no, your Purity, I did not me—” He began backpedaling physically, and was retreating towards the lab door.

“Why are you scared, Kelesh?“ I took another step towards him, feeling my breathing quicken as I tried to temper my rage. “You know I would never hurt a faithful follower.” I couldn’t believe someone so steadfast as Kelesh had fallen like the wretched cattle…teeming with taint.

“Be not afraid, Kelesh,” I demanded, closing the distance as he began scrambling towards the door feverishly and I did not recognize the man I was looking at. It was effortless, striding towards him and letting my stinger shoot out towards him right as he squeezed through the doorway, pumping just enough venom to seal his fate utterly, but not instantly.

I watched him cry out and be sent sprawling from the impact but within the same breath, he was saved. I could see the relief in his eyes as he slowly pulled himself up from the floor. His hands were still, if limply hanging by his sides as he looked up at me in awe.

“Thank you, Pure one…for letting me give myself entirely to your light…I am sorry for straying.” His voice was flat, and he was smiling from the stab wound inflicted by my stinger.

“You are forgiven Kelesh, but we have work to do.” I beckoned him back into the lab and towards a proper surgical theatre, complete with brain monitoring technology. His faith crumbled when I tore the tainted cattle apart. It was gruesome, but no more than he must’ve seen during his service.

I cannot allow such frailty within my followers. They will never be at peace if they cannot accept reality such as this. I led Kelesh into the theatre and strapped him down to the table before applying the sensors and such to his head.

I felt the impact blossom into warmth where sharp pain should be, as I sprawled across the floor. I couldn’t breathe as he wrenched his stinger out of my back and I felt it...

The floaty feeling as it all made sense again, and I felt building shame boil within my gut as I shakily pulled myself from the cold floor.

“Thank you, Pure one…for letting me give myself entirely to your light…I am sorry for straying.” I prayed the Pure one would forgive me, not for questioning him but for doubting. His blessing and his mercy were provided before I had even asked, evidenced by the utter calm that only he may provide.

“You are forgiven Kelesh, but we have work to do.” I looked at him and followed him deeper inside the lab to the site of my final penance. I was so excited that I felt dizzy as I helped him strap me down to the table, discontent flickering within me as my last limb was bound.

“Why did you stray?” My lord spoke, his voice both calming and invigorating as my eyes found him standing beside me.

“She—the tainted—was she not saveable?” I asked a question in turn, unsure of my reasons.

“She may have been. However, her fervent resistance to the truth would doubtlessly have led her astray.” I couldn’t help but smile upon being enlightened to that which I did not see.

He continued speaking. “The goal of today’s experiments was to find out more about exactly that resistance.” I watched him look at a scalpel before he laid one of his tentacles vertically down my chest and dragged it downwards. The teeth dug into my flesh, and I was overjoyed as each scrape against my bones brought shuddering joy from my core.

I kept looking on in awe as he used the tentacles’ suction cups to peel open my chest cavity and then applied some of his saliva to keep it open. The feeling was sublime but something began gnawing at my mind while I watched him begin his vivisection.

“We cannot allow what happened to you to ever happen again…right, Kelesh?” His tentacles wrapped around my legs and I felt them begin twisting. I clenched my teeth in bliss as I felt my joints get dislocated, bones forced out of place before succumbing to his strength as well.

“No, Pure one.” I watched my flesh stretch and strain before splitting open with dark purple beauty. He leaned down and bit through the mangled flesh, slathering his saliva on the open wound to save me. It shouldn’t hurt, it couldn’t hurt to give a gift to the one you owe everything…

Why does it hurt?

My smile never faltered as I watched him twist the meat off my leg, my flesh clinging to his tentacles’ saw-teeth before it was pulled off and swallowed whole.

His beak dripped with my blood. “I have not had a taste of my own kind for a long time, so we will both savor this experience.” His reassuring voice sounded indescribably off. Shouldn't his words have reassured me?

I could only smile wider as he moved up to my hands, removing the restraints and holding my arm down as he took another bite. He did as he said, savoring the bite slowly as his beak sliced into my flesh and was only stopped momentarily by my bones. All I could feel was an indescribable but ratcheting sensation as my bones were crushed and broken before he pulled his head away. My arm jerked towards him as it was not a clean cut, and he pulled muscle from bone with the movement.

I felt faint as all I could hear was the sound of my blood spilling onto the table, and then to the floor as he swallowed my flesh.

‘I’m sorry’ I tried to speak, but could not break the obedient smile on my face, and I slowly raised my shredded arm back up for him to continue. His fist closed around my shoulder and he ripped it out of the socket, his movements absolute and…agonizing.

It hurts.

I grinded my teeth as his beak snapped through my shoulder entirely and I gasped as its sharp edge glanced against my neck. The squelch of him savagely biting down through my flesh was accompanied by white-hot pain, and I tried pulling my arm from his maw but nothing happened. I couldn’t even blink as I saw what remained of my arm disappear in two bites.

He wiped his mouth before pressing his palm against the open wound and sealing it with practiced efficiency. “Keep breathing, Kelesh.” I could feel his low voice in my chest as he released the restraints on my other arm. I reacted far too late and everything below my elbow was gone already with nothing but shooting pain left behind.

I watched helplessly as he continued his process of saving the best parts of me for last. He savored each bite at my expense, and slowly pulled the flesh from my remaining leg before devouring it. My body continued its defiance and gave me no mercy of adrenaline or shock.

“Kelesh, do you think I would taste different than you?” Quellin spoke with his mouth full, abandoning the air of godliness with me as his only witness.

“Yes..” My voice was flat, and it sounded like I was listening to myself rather than talking. The reprieve from the agony let my mind clear slightly, and the warm numbness in the deep gashes where my limbs used to be was comforting.

“Des has tasted me, but couldn’t contain her joy enough to speak.” His tone was friendly, just the same I’ve heard since he invaded our station. I panted from the sickening muddle of emotions and sensations I was enduring at his hand. I felt the venom as it coursed inside me, turning this horrific pain into bliss that was so wrong.
He removed my remaining arm impatiently, and I barely felt its absence until he sealed the wound with more of his saliva. Again, I felt the numbing sensation spread throughout the wound as it bonded with my flesh, and again deprived me of death.

That tainted cattle was shown mercy.

“Do you have children of your own?” He admired his work before he bit down through my hips by the sound of the consecutive crunching of my pelvis and spine.

I tried my best to be silent, to resist the venom in the smallest way. “Yes..” my body replied against my wishes.

“Your sacrifice means that much more then, doesn’t it?” I felt a chill rake down what remained of my spine as I heard him speak. My mind wandered to my family, as I realized what I’d done to them even by just speaking of their existence.

“I will make a better world for them. They will live without fear or struggle.” His voice was so disgustingly warm, and I began trying to speak as he ripped out some of my non-vital organs. I was panting as the injuries he'd inflicted began catching up to me despite him stopping me from bleeding. I knew my death was barreling towards me like a starship falling from orbit, but I was utterly helpless.

“Our children will see my new galaxy, and we will have made it together..” He was speaking with his mouth full again as he ripped away more of my torso. I could feel tears welling in my eyes, blurring my vision while I could only hear him tearing through my flesh.

“Thank…you.” I choked out between clenched teeth unwillingly, and the tears rolled down my face as if they were tears of joy. The venom still forced a smile onto my face as he carefully began breaking my ribs with his hands, each snap echoing in my head. The rightful agony was twisted into pleasure as the venom soaked into my brain completely. He piled my ribs up in his palm alongside my sternum before swallowing them all the same as the rest of me.

Then he reached into my chest past where I could see, but I could feel the shortness of breath as he gripped my left lung. I winced as he began digging his fingers into it just for a moment before the flesh split open and I gasped as it deflated in his hands. He pulled away handfuls of my lung and stuffed his lying mouth with it, drooling over my corpse like the monster he was.

My panting grew louder as I struggled pathetically trying to adjust to a singular lung. He plugged the hole in my airway after he wiped his mouth again.

“This is it, the final moments of your sacrifice.” His voice held a disgusting tone of wistfulness as he stepped around the table to the machine that he had prepared to scan my brain so that he could study the taint. I couldn’t see him anymore as he turned it on and an audible hum filled the room. He quickly moved back into view, and I was still crying softly staring up at him while he leaned down over me.

I sputtered quietly and felt the cold icy claws of death sinking into what little remained of my corpse. I saw his expression harden as he watched me start twitching lightly and then convulsing from the lethal dosage of venom. He placed a hand on my head and the base of my neck before biting through it with another squelch as his beak sliced through my spine and throat.

I was lifted off the table and could only hear my life spilling onto the metal table below. He stared into my eyes, and I could barely feel his nails digging into my scalp over the searing pain in my neck.

“Thank you, Kelesh…” Darkness danced in my peripherals before my vision shrank to a pinprick of light.

“...your children will prosper in my new world.”

This took me far too long, and I am apologizing for how fucking late it is by at least getting it done and posted. I hope you enjoy, its a more loose interpretation of Quellin leaning towards his whole delusional godhood shtick.
