Are my boyfriend (43) and me (26) going too fast?
I guess I'm just asking for advice on if anyone thinks it'll go well or not, I haven't dated since middle school (I'm 26) and my boyfriend is 20 years older than me (he's 43).
So we basically met online, on a forum where I vented about my current situation. And one day, he decided to start chatting with me. Was saying that he'd help me financially, for nothing in return. And he did send the money, it did help me through a lot at the time. But then we just started talking casually, I vented more to him and he vented back to me. This went on for three weeks, until a couple days ago he confessed to me. He said that he felt we had a connection (even saying we were like soul mates I know it was so cheesy), but he didn't wanna be pushy and he was also scared that I'd think he was a creep because he's been rejected so many times before in the past (this was all before he told me his age). But I did feel that I started to like him too, though for me I kept it to myself because of my past trauma (a lot of self image issues from the abuse I went through). So when he asked me out, I asked if we can do a 'test run' - we'd take it slow, and see where it goes. Thankfully, he said it was ok and he was constantly saying he wasn't trying to pressure me into liking him simply for sending me money.
Well, turns out, things have been going a bit fast. It still feels natural, but we started almost immediately s**ting that first night. We still talk about other things as well, but for the past couple days it's just been mostly that (in fact, just tonight we did a video call). And we've even started discussions of being together permanently, though for now he's just planning to come visit next month for Valentine's Day as he lives several states away from me. And I have been telling my loved ones about this whole relationship too, they've been giving me their own advice along the way. But I still feel like I want more outside perspectives on this, as like I said I haven't dated since middle school (and that relationship was a real tragedy it traumatized me a lot).
And no, I don't care that my boyfriend older than me. My dad was much older than my mom (she was 20 and he was 40), so I have no issues with being with an older man at all. My main issue here is my own anxiety, wondering if we really are going 'too fast' even though he respects my boundaries and always makes sure I'm ok with everything going on. He always says he wants to support me, to make me happy and feel loved like what I've done for him. And I do trust him, because he hasn't shown any clear signs yet of being manipulative (trust me it's why I tell my loved ones everything just in case things go south). But I still worry things may go south, regardless of how I think or feel at the moment.
tl;dr - Is my relationship going too fast, despite my boyfriend respecting my boundaries?
