Help! In a shoe rut due to foot/toe issues -- hallux valgus / toe spacer users?
Guysss! I (28F) have foot problems and need some specialized advice to get me out of a shoe rut / save me from Birks and Uggs.
I've got hallux valgus (double bunions-in-the-making), so I wear toe spacers to prevent pain while walking. This means I do best with shoes with a wide enough toe box to accommodate spaced-out toes (ex. Birkenstocks, Uggs, stretchy men's sneakers). But of course I need more stylish can-wear-all-day-without-crying shoes... I just haven't found any. I love the chunkyish loafer look so I bought these (https://www.zappos.com/p/naturalizer-darry-toffee/product/9594318/color/3386) in a Wide, thinking they would fit great, accommodate my wide toe box needs, etc... BUT... I did not account for wide shoes being made for a wide heel? So my average-sized heel is slipping out? But the toe box feels so nice, and it would be so amazing to be able to wear a cute shoe with spacers so I'm not hurting after a few hours (which is what happens if I wear my current roster of cute shoes, which can't also fit spacers).
Has anyone had luck finding wide toe box shoes that aren't wide in the heel too? Or is there a way to modify shoes so that the heel fits narrower? Has anyone used shoe stretchers on normal-width shoes to stretch out JUST the toe box/toe width to accommodate spacers/bunions/etc? I guess I'm born yesterday. All the women I know with bunions just suffer but I am not that strong 🥲
