r/coheed's Songs of Yesterday and Today Numbers #7 and #8: Junesong Provision and Neverender.

Gettin' to the goods here folks. Sorry I missed the last day! I love these songs! Especially Neverender. Junesong spawned the name of the character that I named my kitten after; Newo Ikkin, better known as Newo Kitten. Anyways, business ahead concerning Junesong Provision

The Fiction: (From Maleficus13 on songmeanings) This song is supposed to be the character's (Claudio's) letter to his girlfriend, Newo Ikkin, when he leaves to find out what happened to his family. He leaves her for her own good, expecting that he shall eventually suffer the same fate as his siblings (death), and he wants to keep her out of danger. The other parts of the song, specifically the parts about the ship going down, describe the part in the story where Coheed and Cambria have overtaken a ship which was supposed to bring them to a planet under the control of Wilhem Ryan (the antagonist) and his troops. Cambria accidentally destroys the core that powers the ship, so dooming everyone aboard including them and the enemy troops (who still have families at home). Apollo is Newo Ikkin's dog, who is fatally wounded when he tries to protect her from a murderous mutant bent on finding and killing Claudio, who is prophetically the only person capable of stopping Wilhelm Ryan from controlling all of the planets in Heaven's Fence and destroying the Keywork (a beam of light that holds all of the planets together).

The Real: I would guess this song is kinda like a letter to friends at home by Claudio. Maybe Nikki Owen, aka Newo in the story, was taking care of his dog or something.

The Part: My favorite part has gotta be the way Claudio sings "I've...SPENT. SOOOOOOOOOOO long". Love it. It's the first thing about the song I ever liked and it has always stuck with me.

Then, of course, Neverender.

The Fiction: (From Winged_Duality at songmeanings.net) "Neverender” is essentially a revision of “Junesong Provision” by Claudio after he resolves himself at the end of “Junesong” to be strong and live long enough to come home and cease Newo’s waiting. As a mental rewrite of “Junesong Provision”, Claudio reveals in this song some very important parts of himself and aspects of his personality to us, such as his acceptance that he is leaving and may never return, along with the fact that as much as he loves Newo, she is not the center of his world. The song is primarily a way to not only setting his own mind as ease as far as thinking of what the future holds, but is also an attempt to set Newo’s heart at ease by telling her his absence is not her fault and that he’ll be back again someday, a better and bigger man than before.

The Real: Hypothetically, this song could be about Claudio Sanchez heading off into the real world for the first time, and this is kinda like a note to them to tell them not to worry; as well as something for himself to remember that no matter how hard things get, keep trying to move forward. Maybe.

The Part: I absolutely adore the guitar at the very beginning of the first "Point your gun in another direction" part. Not the doo dee doo dee doo doo, but the dundundundundunDUNDUNDUNDUNDUNDUNDUNdudududududududududududu.

Yeah. That part.
