Questions about supplies

Just getting into embroidery after being inspired by this sub. I used to do cross stitch so I already have a fair amount of stuff. I do have a couple of questions.

1. Where do you buy your supplies? I am getting less and less happy with Amazon by the day. I am in US.

2. Do you use a hoop holder? Do you find it useful? Which would you recommend? I will probably be doing mostly small stuff but I could see having both hands free be useful.

3. Are there any other supplies you feel are essential? I have the basics: hoops, needles, floss, scissors, etc.
