Do the stats really say we need a 1st round QB?

Of the 67 QBs that have played in the 57 SBs, 13 of them were the #1 draft picks in their class and fully half of them (34) were 1st round picks. But that also means the other half (33) were NOT first round picks.

Kurt Warner and Jake DelHomme weren't drafted at all. Joe Montana, Jeff Hostetler and Russell Wilson (3). Tom Brady (5). Brock Purdy (7). Roger Staubach (10).

For us: Billy Kilmer (1), Joe Theismann (4), Doug Williams (1), Mark Rypien (6). Although Doug doesn't really count, because he wasn't drafted by the Redskins.

On average 3 QBs are taken in the 1st round every year. So in 57 years, there have been ~171 QBs taken in the 1st round, of which 34 played in a SB. That's a 19.8% SB appearance rate.

So we have a 1/5 chance that a 1st round pick will get us to a SB. I'll take those odds.
