Installation of E340 Floodlight on uneven surface?

Hello all,

I'm hoping to install the E340 floodlight on the surface I've circled in the first pic. I'll follow the method for installing away from a junction box, cutting an extension cord, etc. Since the surface of the house is uneven though, with that channel running down the middle, I'm worried about water entering the camera housing through the holes on the back of the housing, particularly via the large crescent shaped hole on the back. Would it be best to first mount a piece of wood to the house, and then mount the camera onto that piece of wood? I have a piece I could use, along with some wood screws. Attaching a pic of those, too - are they suitable? If so, I would try to weatherproof the wood first - but would rotting still be an issue? I don't have experience here, but would go to Home Depot and see what products they'd recommend.

Should I also use silicone sealant around the camera housing? I have a tube of GE Supreme Silicone Window & Door sealant.

Thank you!

P.S. Not sure how to best make a Reddit post with images. Trying it this way, not sure how it will turn out.
