Do people actually “main” an instrument?

I’m starting to pick up on a trend both here in the sub and in public fills. In the sub, I see people talk about maining a specific instrument. And in pubs, I see people who, for example, run bass on all 4 songs. Personally, I switch instruments nearly every song. Curious to see what everyone has to say!
