The Wanderer

sorry but I just love characters like Alustin and Wanderer who must be a nightmare for Bierce to write but an absolute delight for me to read about. that being said why did the Wanderer never develop an artificial affinity? I mean she did have a lot of time and surely some affinity is better than none ( atleast which could be properly used)
