r/coheed's Song of the Day #33: The Willing Well II: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness

The Willing Well II: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness is probably the coolest song title probably ever. It was my favorite Coheed song for a looooooooooong time, pretty much from the moment I moved from a few singles onto full albums until last year. I remember the first night I ever heard it. I was driving down the highway at night; no one on the road at all but me. I was having a good time listening to the album for the first time. It was my first true Coheed experience. I'd heard Welcome Home, The Running Free, In Keeping Secrets, A Favor House, Feathers and Ten Speed, but never a full album. I was not prepared; I was not ready to feel the intensity of the deep cuts, to experience the journey of an album; especially one as cohesive as Good Apollo I. I remember holding the case up and reading the song titles before each one, and as Mother May I ended, I looked down to the separated Willing Well section. I was mystified; I had never heard of song suites before, so I had no idea what to expect. By the time this song came on, I was grooving. But this song took me to another level. Each part builds up the intensity a little bit, but the perfect amount to get the listener to the extremely exciting end. The lyrics were so intense, the drums smashing my brain parts to bits. I knew it was my favorite as soon as it was over.

The Fiction- Claudio Sanchez: “This is more from the Writer’s perspective: He’s become isolated from the world, and he finds a way out, which is to destroy the story.”

As both worlds are bleeding into each other, the album takes a turn to show the perspective from both sides. The events take place in a certain sequence, but the listener/reader is also thrown back and forth between plot and disillusion to heighten the sense of disorientation that Writer feels. The Willing Well songs are all involved in the section of the graphic novel where Writer is on his way into the story, and Claudio is on his way to House Atlantic to fight with Ryan for the first time since “A Favor House Atlantic”. Writer and Character are both preparing for an upheaval; a final battle, or so they feel. CobaltandCalcium.com

The Real- I'm gonna be honest. I'm not sure about this one. Insight please.
