HELP: software engineer considering a career change as an electrician
I (30m) am so fed up with the current state of affairs in the software engineering world. People just don't care about the finished product and muck it all up for short term gains. No one seems to care about your contributions and the higher ups are constantly looking at you as a cost center instead of a profit generator. I have no doubt AI will continue to eat up swaths of employment in the field as they look to cut costs.
I'm somebody who takes pride in their work. I want the finished product to be admired and cared for in the future. I'm a hard worker and passionate about doing things "the right way" even if it means putting in more work up front. I want my work to matter and this is why I am considering a career change to being an electrician.
If you've read this far, does it sounds like I'd be a good fit for the job? I've done nothing but watch "day in the life of an electrician" youtube videos. I love how much care & pride people seem to put toward their work. Is this common/sought after or are managers just looking for cheap & fast work?
I know I probably wont get paid as much but I've heard wages as high as $100k are possible. Is this realistic? and after how many years?
I'll probably hang on for a while in software just to save up some money but what should I be doing today to prepare for an apprenticeship?
