Vista 2 white light in earbud itself

Has anyone ever seen a white LED light up inside the bud itself? Over the weekend one of my buds just stopped working overnight. Not a surprise, since I've had them for nearly 2 years, which is beyond the warranty and thus exceeded Jaybird's design-for-reliability philosophy. But as I was trying all the soft/hard/factory reset steps to see if I could resuscitate it, a white light started strobing inside the cloth of the dead bud.

I couldn't find anything online referencing it. Maybe I was actually seeing the battery actively melting down? When I touched the bud it was HOT. I pulled it out of the case and couldn't comfortably hold it.

The initial response I got from Customer Support was both comical and concerning: "We are expediting your ticket and will follow up with you shortly via email. Please stop using the device, turn it off, disconnect it from any power sources (if applicable), preserve the scene of the incident (retain the involved Logitech device(s) and any other device(s) involved in the alleged incident), and report the incident to your insurance company."

Seems like they have a canned response for when their products melt down and cause property damage. I didn't have any damage aside from a set of garbage buds, so of course I ended up with the "Gee whiz, it's outside warranty. So sorry! We appreciate your business." final result.
