[999] Two 500 word writing challenges

Hi all. I am part of a group that did some prompt challenges that resulted in a complete story. There are two distinct ones, each 500 words (that was the hard limit). The elements were assigned randomly, and we had to give it our best go. It was fun practice, and looking to see where I can strengthen myself.

I put the requirements of each prompt ahead of the piece. One was a noir love story in Middle Earth, the other was a bank robbery in wartime with a countess and a madame with drugs.

I am looking for any feedback. Were they enjoyable, easy to follow, did I hit the mark for theme and character with word choice, that kind of thing. Curious also if people enjoyed one more than the other, and if there were different strengths/weaknesses.
