Managerial structure

I'm a relatively new Ops ASM in a brand new store. There is only one other Ops ASM and he's been there only a month longer than I have. I just found out that not only does he make $2 more than me now but he's been offered Merch or Asst Merch and a raise. He's pretty damn useless as an ASM and I'm always cleaning up his messes and doing his go backs. Would I be under him if he moved to merch? If so I need to hand in my 2 weeks notice today when I go into work.
