Anchored right hand vs floating right hand

I've been trying to make my right hand technique more relaxed for a few weeks. I've watched a bunch of videos about it on YouTube and one thing that I'm still worried about is anchoring. Some people say it doesn't matter if you anchor your hand or not and that it depends on your personal preferences, but there's the other crowd saying anchor should be avoided and that it's better to keep right hand closed. I tried to play with a closed hand and it felt like absolute shit. I'd like to ask some experienced guitar players if anchoring the right hand is okay or not.
