Goodbye Adventurer 5M Pro...
So this is a mix between a rant and a mostly negative review on the printer.
I've been 3D printing for over 2 years, I had the aventurer 4 pro for over a year and bought my first 5m pro about 3 months ago. I say my first, because the first one I bought had such bad bed level out of the box, that I ended up returning it after only about a week to Amazon. And this is after I attempted to disassemble the platform and manually level the equipment myself. A month later I bought the 5M pro again when it was on sale for $100 off and that one seemed pretty fantastic out of the box for the first 10 days. After that I started subtly getting error e0003 for any prints that were over an hour. It would pause the print and I would have to forcefully shut down the printer, and restart it in order to resume long prints that I did not want to lose. This caused terrible resume layer lines in my prints. For one print that took over 8 hours, I frustratingly went through this process seven times because I refused to give up on the print (I did not have any more filament in that color). It would happen about every 50 minutes.
I read online that one solution would be to reflash the firmware from a USB drive. I did that, and that resolved the issue for maybe another few more days and the same errors started coming back. I was also hit with error e0001 every once in awhile. I reached out to customer service and they gave me some generic things to attempt, I found more thorough options researching online myself. But I also had some rough experiences with my aventurer 4 after a few months as well. I decided to return my second 5m pro right before the 30-day mark on Amazon and had about 150 hours of printing on it. I was not willing to wait for an improved firmware or lose another couple of hundred dollars in filament for having to reprint a large 8-12 hour prints.
At this point I've already been commissioned a few times to print pretty large projects mostly for cosplay. So I've decided to give up on flash forge, and buy a bambu lab X1c. Obviously with this printer costing double the amount of the M5 pro it is not fair to compare, but so far it has been ridiculously amazing. It was like driving a luxury or expensive sports car for the first time.
My advice for anyone that decides to get this printer or any other 3d printer from Amazon is buy the asurion 3-year office equipment protection insurance plan. I paid under $65 and I had them completely reimburse me for my adventurer 4 printer without any repair attempts late last year. This insurance can be used for any 3D printer purchased on Amazon, which unfortunately does not include the x1c. I guess after saying that, I should mention that in no way do I work for any type of insurance company, Amazon, or any 3D printing company. I'm just a motion graphics /3d Artist they got into 3D printing because it allowed me to hold things. I would 3D model my actual hand which has always been a freaking dream.
Well that was my experience, and I know it's not the same for everyone, and I had some good times with my aventurer 4 pro while getting into 3D printing. But at least for me, enough is enough. By the way, there's some pretty amazing people in this Reddit group that have helped me throughout the last couple of years. 👍
