r/coheed's Song of the Day #47: The End Complete V: On The Brink

I've got a mildly interesting story to tell about On The Brink. I was listening to the song, digging and grooving on the beginning, driving along on the main road of my area. There's little vegetation around, so you can see the whole sky, and it was gloomy; dark clouds really looming over. I decided to roll my windows up; I'm sensing rain. We're at "please drive me home one last time". At the exact moment as the guitar comes back in, rain begins to drizzle. As the song changes pace and gets heavier, there's a thunderclap. It happens as the full band goes boom in the background. Then lightning on the next BOOOOOM. It was incredible. The storm literally synced to my CD player, and I was dumbstruck.

Anyways, lots to say about this song. There's a reprise of The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut. There are 57 HAIL's in the song. It's the first and only song to reference the saga by name.

The Fiction- (from Golgamesh at song meanings) In the last song, The Road and The Damned, everything ends. Claudio's killed Wilhelm Ryan, Mayo Deftinwolf, and everyone he has a vendetta out on. He destroys Star IV, breaking The Keywork, and sending the planets into chaos. So, at the end Claudio goes to heaven, and is reunited with Ambellina, his parents, everyone he lost. But, he's guilty so he goes to hell. The Writer stops him, and the story ends.

So, in this song, The Writer puts down his story. He has done what he started. His madness has passed him. Ten Speed atill remains with him. He is part of the story, and will not fade. The Writer decides to go to Erica Court's house, making Ten Speed think that he will take her back. He gets angry with The Writer. But, when Erica lets The Writer in her house, he vents all his feelings on her, and ends thier relationship on his terms. The Writer and Ten Speed converse, and The Writer begins his new life. The story has given him a new lease on life. He is free of Erica, free of his madness. He sets off back to his house, to start his life anew.

The Real- Claudio's saying bye to his story. :(

The Part- NO ONE will agree, but the drum bit right before the Final Cut reprise is the best. Damn, awesome.
