More nexstar shinnanigans.
Our company was recently acquired by a nextstar company. Luckily, a near riot lead to them backing down and allowing us to run things closer to how we used to as long as we make numbers.
Now, they are instituting mandatory Google background checks so we can get some stupid blue checkmark by our buisness on Google. Continued employment is dependant on completion of these Google background checks. Things they ask for are SS number, driving history, criminal check, as well as a line stating I consent for them to having the ability to query for this info at any point for the duration of my employment at the company.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of shit? Am I the only one that sees this as a massive overreach? If it was a simple pre-employment background check I would have no issue with that. I've done those before and I know the information scope limits it to the assessor and the company. But this is Google and it's only used to get some arbitrary clearance from Google for their "verified company" tag.
Am I overreacting? Is this normal nowadays?
