I saw this horrifying interpretation of a classic VW Bug a couple years ago...

horrifyingly awesome
Indeed, note the double air-horn in the front wheel well c:
Not shitty at all. I would drive that given the opportunity.
That's not half bad... kinda like it.
Who would downvote this? Sometimes I think there are people who just downvote everything they find.
That is the downside of this sub do I up vote it because it is so bad sometimes I think that is awful and just before I down vote it I remember that posts here are meant to be of shitty things.
From the thumbnail it looks like Darth Vader's helmet on wheels... I like it.
I would drive the shit out of that!
Pretty cool crawler, but that's a lot of weight to push with the stock motor. Had one similar but only had 31"s on the back and stock tires on the front.
I can't imagine how much the brakes are probably straining, unless he upgraded them extensively.
edit: diction
It's got a solid front axle on it, so it's most likely got larger drum or dis brakes in the front, can't really see much under the back end but the stock crank pulley. Either way that thing isn't going much faster than 45 mph anyway.
I would think the tires would make the final drive ratio much higher. Not that it has the HP to turn them though, I guess.
looks like the front end of a tractor I would like to see more pictures of under that thing.
In the parking lot at the San Leandro marina, right? I've seen this thing there quite a bit but never seen it running. Theres a bunch of sketchy cars there....
I've seen this before, it's in San Leandro, CA. Always parked by the bay. Thing is HUGE.
It seems to be a fine line between shitty and awsome on this sub sometimes
I wish people would only post shitty car mods, interesting cars with lots of work to make it something it never was does not make it shitty.......it makes the op a poor judge of vehicular work
I would point out that at the top of the page is says post pictures or videos of "ridiculous mods" which by any reasonable definition of the word "ridiculous" clearly encompasses this vehicle given its clear absurdity regardless of how awesome it may be.
However, if we wish to use the subreddit name rather than the instructions as a guide, I think it still fits but it would depend on the interpretation of "shitty". I would call this interesting but also amazingly useless as I'm fairly certain that in creating this the car is rendered functionally unusable (I'd love to see someone try to take a corner in it at any kind of speed). Assuming the perspective that cars are supposed to provide some utility, thus any mod that makes a car less able to do so than it was originally would qualify as postable (and so far as I can tell this principle encompasses almost all the mods I've seen posted here such as spoilers adding extra weight on cars that can't benefit from them, 'stacks without the raised snorkling air intakes, etc.). Hence, a car you really can't use would qualify as "shitty" in the purest sense possible and as such it is assumed mods undertaken to get it to that point would likewise be "shitty" assuming the above paradigm.
Now, if I had posted this in "shitty car art" I would agree with your assessment as this is in my opinion, clearly fine art, as "fine art" describes an art form developed primarily for aesthetics and/or concept rather than practical application, meaning it serves no practical purpose, which describes this car perfectly.
That is actually pretty neat.
