2000 Chevy Blazer Gas Gauge

I have a 2000 Blazer (4 door, 4.3 v6) and the gas gauge has two settings... Full, and Empty. I had done some searching already and the consensus is that its either a short in the wiring, or a faulty sending unit.

My question is; Is there a way I can verify whether it is the wires, or the sending unit, before committing to digging through the wires, or replacing the fuel pump?
