Why do people scoff at old technology?

I have used a certain position in my life that has helped me well, the simple basis of it is that I use old technology to overcome the new and new technology to overcome the old. I use techniques dating back to 1776, I find craft in the old ways, why would people laugh at it?

I understand you can tweet influential people with an at tag or a hash tag tag, but I am not that sophisticated in the new technology run society of today. I doubt the people I talk to would even respond.I do all important communication through letters, at which the younger generation get scared. Us the envelope now so official?
