TRYING TO FIND AN ANIME I WATCH YEARS AGO PLEASE HELP

Okay, I'm hoping that you guys will be able to help me with this one, but I don't have much information. I watched this anime movie when I was like, maybe, 10 or so (14 now) and I have no idea what it was called or any character names or anything, but I can tell you some of what I remember from it. It was about these two young guys that were friends, and they joined some sort of military or air force. They got assigned to this giant, floating ship with bubble turrets http://mrjgoyeneche.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/the-death-of-the-ball-turret-gunner/ and when the battle started, they manned the turrets and were defending against giant dragonfly-type creatures. One of the guys got shot and all this stuff happened and then there was like a ceremony where he got a medal or something like that. This is all I remember, sorry, but if you have ANY idea of what the movie is called, PLEASE TELL MEH
