Looking to buy an early 90's pickup. What should I know?

My wife and I have a Rav4 and a Subaru Impreza WRX STI - I just sold my Corolla because we weren't using it enough. With the extra money I wanted to buy a little pickup and I've always wanted an early 90's Toyota model.

I don't want to spend more than $3,000 on the pickup and will only use it occasionally to haul a dump of dirt, or to pick up lumber locally. Plus, it'd be nice to haul the dogs down to the river on a hot summer day without having the Rav smell like wet dog. What should I be looking for as known issues? Below is a prospective purchase, can anyone provide me input?
