The lack of Press and real information...
I am listening to Amy Goldman and she is really bringing up a point I know many modern Anarchist have brought to light, and that is the lack of real news getting to the ears of the citizens. It seems today that if news isn't on CNN or Fox then the mass majority of the public refuses to not only believe it, but holds it against those who are spreading the knowledge. It seems like if Rosa Parks was to happen today, the media wouldn't even cover it or would make it seem like she were a terrorist.
Journalist in the past 10 years have seen their rights stripped away by the government, getting arrested and beaten for covering police violence, corruption, whistle blower, etc. etc. Journalist at the G20 in Toronto and the last RNC were arrested and beaten despite having documentation and a license to be there. It is happening at the Democrat convention as well. Cameras are being stolen and broken, people are being arrested to prevent basic news from being spread.
The media we all know is controlled by the government, by journalist are being prevented from spreading knowledge to the people, which then leads to a lack of intelligence from the public. Obviously this is the goal, to prevent news from spreading which would discredit or make the government look bad, but clearly something needs to be done about this? The Media isn't broadcasting proper news about the Exxon flood that just happened and is filling up cities with Oil, and then lastly the coverage for Bradley Manning. Whistle blowing in the News has been cracked down on more than any president ever and the news isn't helping these whistle blowers in anyway.
Goldman said a quote, ''Journalist shouldn't get records, for putting things on the record'', and I found that to be really powerful and true to the heart. What do you feel about how the news is being presented to the public and what do you feel can be done to make a real change?
