I'm on a quest for a better social life - suggestions appreciated!
I'm new to the city (moved a few months ago) and lamenting the fact that my less than stellar social life is not really improving.
I consider myself an outgoing person, and I've been pretty happy other places I've lived. This year, though, I'm a new teacher and the emotional demands and time commitment of that job combined with living in a new place tends to make Netflix and falling asleep on the couch my fallback weekend activity.
I have a boyfriend that I live with, some nice folks I talk to at church, and a handful of friendly acquaintances. That's about it. For the most part, I've found people that I interact with in passing to be very pleasant and when I do go out and manage to talk to someone new, I enjoy myself. But it happens so infrequently that I'm thinking about moving to some other city that has people I already know.
I know that I could be making more of an effort to make friends, and that's where I need some help. Any suggestions for where to go to make friends would be appreciated. Or maybe you want to be my friend?!
More information about myself that might be useful if anyone is interested in making suggestions - I'm female and in my 20s. I like cooking, reading, dancing, word-related games, trivia, crafts, feminist politics, and hiking. I do drink but I have limited success staying up late since I go to bed at the same time as my grandpa during the week. I'm not really interested in recreational sports after a traumatic second grade episode where I kicked a soccer ball into my own team's goal. I'm a bit more offbeat and nerdy than what people tend to assume when they find out I'm a teacher. I'll stop before this starts to sound too much like an okcupid profile.
