A question/comment about the first scene in the lighthouse.

I've played through the game twice, and after reading loads of explanations and timelines, and paying close attention to all the little details in game, there's still one small thing that bothers me. In the first scene, in the lighthouse, next to the dead man, a cigarette is burning. It's only half burnt. So, by now, I've kind of realised everything is done on purpose in this game. Does it mean, then, that there was someone in the lighthouse very recently before Booker arrived?
