What is the point of it all?
I was reading about Chris McCandless and his story and it got me thinking about the meaning of life, what is it? and why do I matter?
I'm 18 now and finishing high school and the thought of spending the next 50 years working to make money to buy things is dreadful. My father died when I was 14 and he spent his whole life working to make money for me and my brother and he died. Just died. I have spent the better part of the past 4 years trying to be responsible and "manly" but whats the point? no matter what happens I'm going to die and even if I become the best person in the world I can't escape death. I can't really articulate what I want to say its just that I feel helpless to my future and I don't want to be another Joe Blow who works for a corporation.
I guess I want a solitude of sorts but don't know how to go about getting it in this day and age. I want to be my own person but I feel attached to my materials and I feel like I hold myself back because of the attachment. Maybe I just want what I know is unavailable and unattainable for myself, I know as I get deeper into life my mind will begin to calm down about wanting to be away from it all and live a meaningful solitary life and will begin to grow to be content with whatever I wind up having. It's just a scary thing to be going into; I'm looking at my life and have no clue as to how I feel or how I go about achieving what I want hell for that matter I don't even know what I want.
Thanks for reading sorry for the wall of text.
