Ranger Build - Condition Damage and Survival
Open to critique. But I've been looking around at other builds online and find them all missing something, so thought I'd post my own.
It's ideally a bleed condition damage and survival build. I use it for PvE - because nobody likes people who can't stay alive to kill assassins - and WvW, where I'm sometimes one of 50 against 50 and sometimes in a party of just 2 trying to take a minimally defended supply depot.
I can take quite a beating and stay alive and if the group is wiping, I'm usually either saving or the only one alive at the end (when Maggs dies). I swap pets and use QZ when I can and shoot enemies from the side or behind to stack bleeds. I may run in and fire trap for fire condition damage and jump back with the short bow evade and dodge backward.
I use Signet of the Hunt for the always on speed boost (a huge boon) and the occasional increased pet burst. Fire traps are good AoE condition damage. Quickening Zephyr is a great burst speed boost. I found Entangle to be more useful than Rampage. It does good bleed damage, can help you escape enemies, can help you lock enemies in to a vulnerable position.
I really like Troll Unguent for the heal skill since it heals a lot over time and stays on both me and my pet regardless of where we move or are currently located.

20/30 Marksmanship - +200 Power and +20% Condition Duration
- III: Up to you. I currently have Keen Edge for the extra bleeds (that get cleansed quickly in WvW and need to be replaced).
- VIII: Piercing arrows is the reason I'm stacked in this tree. It's really useful to position yourself correctly and hit not just one enemy, but the 2, 3, 4 that may be behind him. Useful in dungeons too. Just need to be aware of your position.
10/30 Skirmishing - +100 Precision and +10% Critical Damage
- II: Increased bleeding is useful, especially when you aren't easily able to get behind or beside your opponent.
30/30 Wilderness Survival - +300 Toughness and +300 Condition Damage*
-
VI: This is useful if you're using Quickening Zephyr and Entangle like I am. Otherwise, up to you.
-
IX: I've found this skill very useful on multiple occasions.
-
XII: Up to you. Currently running barkskin for survivability but maybe swap in V later for more pet damage.
5/30 Nature Magic - Good for regen when you hit 75% hp.
5/30 Beastmastery - Good for speed boost on pet swap.
And there you have it. A build that has lots of toughness and condition damage. Stack bleeds and dodge and heal to keep yourself up while you enemies bleed out. My gear uses the Superior Rune of the Undead for the bonus Condition Damage, Toughness and the 5% Toughness to Condition Damage conversion.
