How do you feel about buying 'aged' beer in stores?

I just stumbled across a dozen or so bottles of Avery's The Beast in a (fairly sketchy) local liquor store's beer cooler. Upon further inspection, I realized that they were bottled in 2006. I immediately celebrated my good fortune. Then, upon further consideration, I pondered why they are still available. Have they been there for 6/7 years? Did they find them in the back and put them on the shelf?

So my question is how do you feel about finding old bottles in liquor stores? Do you snatch it up and cheer your good luck or do you avoid it, assuming it's been kept in subpar conditions?
