I asked r/truetf2 about this event idea, so now I am asking you guys! (x-post)
So, I am a member of a gaming community and that has a lot of competitive experience in TF2, however, interest has dwindled and in an attempt to revitalize the interest we have in TF2, we are hoping to run a weekly pick-up game event. We have run in-house events like this before and they have mostly gone smoothly and have always been fun. If you would like to check out some of these past events you can visit [1] http://couchathletics.com/ and look around.
The event would be at the same set time each week, probably Saturdays at 8PM EST. We have a Mumble server and two Team Fortress 2 servers that we can use. We run the event and have people either organize their own teams by using captains or by us organizing teams for you and do a pick up game. Given the time allotted we can probably crank out several, and we can switch teams up after each game if people need to leave or if they are imbalanced in some way. We would aim for Highlander as that is incredibly popular currently.
The benefits of this over something like TF2 lobby are pretty simple. It would be scheduled play each week. This allows for you to plan on playing in a structured environment, as opposed to hoping you can get a good game before you have to do something else and ideally eliminating the risk of people leaving early.
I expect the skill level to be mostly low/medium with a few above average and great players that may decide to show up, but we'd love to help out people who are new to competitive play.
Suggestions and comments, even if they are negative, are always welcome. :)
