How do you make friends in Montreal ?

I'm a foreign student. I find it hard to make friends. Everybody go to courses and that's it. How exactly do people make friends in this city ?

I try to hang out with people but I am afraid they see me as "the foreign token"

Is this a racialist country ? Do arabs only hang out with arabs ? blacks only hang out with blacks ? asians only hang out with asians
