Image Capture Extension

Recently, when heavily browsing the internet (2 windows, multiple tabs each, usually some video content,) my google chrome has been freezing up for a second or two of the beach-ball before continuing. When i Check activity monitor during this, it shows a process called "Image Capture Extension" is hogging up my CPU and RAM for quick bursts. I've tried deleting all of the temporary caches and preferences related to it as recommended on the apple support forums. Anyone know what this process is and how to get rid of it? Or is perhaps there some other problem with my computer. Thanks!
