Suggestions for Hybrid Female Bike?

Hello! I checked out the FAQ page but I'm new enough I still don't know where to begin with picking a bike.

Is it possible to get a good bike (mostly for light road riding) for around $300? I love checking out the bikes in conversations around this sub but they're usually pretty pricey. Thanks for any help!
