Has anyone bucked hospital policy and had food or drink while in labor?
I'm high risk so have to deliver in a hospital. I have a lot of issues with some of the over medicalization OBs engage in during labor and delivery. But I want to be in a hospital because it's the best place to be in an emergency. However, I do plan on hiring a doula and will be actively declining interventions if, in my opinion and the opinion of the doula, they are not necessary.
However, I have a big issue with this whole no eating and drinking during labor. Two friends of mine recently ended up with a csection and both said that they truly believe had they declined pitocin and been allowed a small snack, the csection would not have been necessary.
So, I fully intend to buck the policy. I will be bringing snacks with me and will be consuming them in the event I feel the need for some energy. Not talking about a double cheeseburger here, just some fruit, granola bars, and other healthy light stuff for energy. The chances of needing general anesthesia during labor is EXTREMELY low, and this is the only reason for that no food and drink policy.
Has anyone else had small snacks during labor, contrary to hospital policy?
