Au Hasard Balthazar (opening sequence): A summary
So Marie wants a donkey but this dude who I'm assuming is her father says hell no and then they are seen leaving with the donkey so, uh okay dad, you're crazy. The kids then baptize the donkey and force feed it rice or something and I mean, I don't think these kids are qualified to do that. I don't know. Then the kids, Jacques and Marie, play for a while and they love the donkey and they wrestle with it for some reason and this other little girl comes to play with them and Jacques and Marie just stare at her like she's the devil. I'm pretty sure Jacques and Marie are in love or something and this little devil girl is invading on their space but she doesn't even notice how much they hate her. She just keeps petting the donkey. So then this random chick makes this other random chick eat a spoon full of sugar and that makes her cry. Then Jacques is leaving with the devil girl whom I now think is his sister or something and while they're saying goodbye some adults go look at some dead child and take her hat off because I guess you don't need a hat when you're dead. Then it cuts to the donkey all grown up with Marie no where to be found and these men are just being mean to him for no reason and making him pull wagons and plow fields.
My professor told us to watch only the first five minutes of this movie. I hate that. I have so many questions and the wikipedia page has none of the answers.
My prof is on crack.
