Register of Swiss Surnames/Citizenship registration

I just found this website while trying to find some info on how citizenship is registered.

I'm registered in Jonschwil, but my family hasn't lived there...ever...that I know of, but way down the valley/over the hills in Uznach.

Does anyone know how the citizenship registration/place of origin works and if this website is connected to it?
