What is your opinion on pets inside the house?

Ever since I was little I always wanted a dog to be in the house that I could play with in or outside. My parents are adamant against the idea because "Oh they'd shed everywhere. They crap/piss in the floor! Allergies are bad." and so on. They don't take the time to look in to the matter. There's a type of dog for every need! The first thing I plan on doing when I get a place of my own is getting a dog to live with. People of reddit, what is your opinion on having animals inside? Curious as to how many more people share this opinion.
