Interesting observations

I work for a call center, (thats all there is in this town) luckily though, I only maintain their networks & do desktop reformats & replacements.

A lot of my friends though, are actual agents on the phones - I became curious after talking with them about their job a few weeks ago - they were talking to me about their own tales from tech support.

Each story had a common set of variables - led me to be curious about the demographics of their callers. I built a database for them to populate with a set of variables for each call & asked them to include it in their note taking process (for science, they were curious too) - there are two flags: gender, & web browser.

My findings: 89% of users who called in were using a version of IE - this does not stack against real world statistics, as Chrome currently has the largest market share.

72% of callers were female - these agents support a shipping company's website & software - shipping clerks & warehouse workers are likely predominantly male though.

This are in no way to be construed as accurate data - I had two agents collecting information, it could be coincidental; however, it appears that IE sucks & American/Canadian women are worse at using the tools these agents support than men.

I encourage some of you to start collecting demographic data - literally just open a spreadsheet, make a few columns and assign a value to a quality, such as 1 = IE, 2 = Chrome, 3 = Firefox -- F = Female etc - you may find the results surprising.
