The direction of Patrick

Anyone else think that Patrick has turned into a selfish asshole? He used to be funny because his selfishness, and at times destructive nature was couched in stupidity. However, it seems now that he's become slightly smarter, with just a few moments of stupidity, yet he's still just as selfish and destructive. By my lights, he's now just an asshole who fucks up Spongebob and Patricks lives. Thoughts?
