US Media and the North Korean Boogieman

What's with all this North Korea shit lately?

Story: I (American) went to Cuba once and was there for International Workers Day. I remember how huge the parade was. It seemed like all of La Habana was there. Even the city bus routes were shut down because the buses were used to transport people to the Plaza de la Revolucion. I was so impressed. They also showed parades throughout the world on TV. I was thinking that the US must be impressed by the international solidarity and couldn't wait to come back. When I returned, no one I talked to even knew about International Workers Day. I was shocked. Then, I learned that the day after they had killed Bin Laden and that took over the news. Hmm... Then, I realized that every year around May 1st, something would happen that took over the news. I concluded that when something not-in-favor-of-the-oppressive-sociopolitical-system-in-place would occur, the US would side track the media somehow. So....

Now that North Korea is all over the fucking news (and I'm so sick of it), I'm assuming that something must be happening elsewhere? Maybe Venezuela? Syria? Greece? Spain? I don't know. Am I going crazy paranoid? Any ideas or comments about anything I said? I would appreciate any well thought out responses.
