Knowing when to NGAF and when to GAF?
I've been struggling with NGAF for quite some time. I even posted over in r/anxiety over some issues I was having at work. Someone suggested that I read "Fuck It: The Ultimate Spiritual Way" by John C. Parkin. Which I immediately did read. I was excited and was practicing saying 'fuck it' often. I was clicking random and stumbled on to this sub reddit and quickly subscribed so this is a first post for me here.
The reason for my anxiety then and the reason for my post now are the same. The situation I was having is with someone I work with. I ignored the situation every way possible and applied some of the 'fuck it' ideas that were mentioned in the book I had read. I also learned that I need to pick my battles and finally I was at the brink of an emotional melt down when I just couldn't say 'fuck it' anymore. I finally went to my boss and explained what was going on and that I just can't deal with it anymore.
I'm a very small female working as a machinist in a mostly male dominated company. This co-worker (in another department) has done everything possible to discredit me on a professional level. For a long time I couldn't figure out why he had targeted me. Another co-worker had also noticed this on going battle and finally came to me and told me that it's because I am a woman. Thursday was the final straw for me. Friday morning we (my boss, his boss and myself) had a meeting about his behavior towards me and one of the other women at the company. I don't know what the results will be but at least it's out there now and I don't have to feel like I'm alone in this. My boss fully supports me in this and is willing to push this as far as it needs to go to stop this.
I learned how to NGAF about a lot of things and I also learned when to GAF about my rights. I refuse to be oppressed by anyone who believes that I am lesser than they are for no other reason then the contents of my jeans. I refuse to be degraded, humiliated and laughed at because this guy is living in 1920's. I picked my battle and I'll see it through.
I guess what I'm saying is that NGAF is great practice but don't let it blind you from what is your given rights as a human. I am not an activist by any means, I just refuse to be a doormat.
TLDR
Pick your battles. GAF when it's your rights that are being violated.
