Sister's broken laptop, really need help

Today my sister was on a bus with her laptop in her bag that is only a month old when a drunk man fell on top of her and broke the screen on her, I haven't seen the laptop but she says that the screen is half white but the laptop is otherwise working.

The thing is she's in a lot of debt, only has a part time job and couldn't at all afford to pay to have the screen fixed and has no insurance on it.

Since it was a drop she wouldn't be able to get it replaced due to it being technically her own fault, however if it was an actual problem with the laptop itself the company would replace it.

I realize this may get down voted as it is a bad choice morally but is there anyway that I could break her laptop so that she could get it fixed for free?

I know this isn't the right thing to do but she is extremely stressed and upset at the moment and needs this laptop for work as well.

Please help if you can.
