Because pigs could become obsolete in 1.6 (cows give meat already, horses will be mounts), I suggest that pigs become a kind of "pack animal."

In 1.6, pigs will give meat and rides, which are roles taken by cows (which also give bonus leather) and horses (which will probably be faster). Therefore, pigs should be able to hold some of your items if given a saddlebag.

The saddlebag can be crafted with one chest and one saddle. Pigs that have saddlebags will be able to carry a chestful of items with one setback: if there are more than ten slots filled in the saddlebag, the pig is massively slowed down. Pigs with saddlebags follow you if you are on horseback and also follow carrots like normal pigs.

Adding this would keep the pig from becoming an obsolete mob.

Big Edit: maybe obsolete is the wrong word. Pigs won't be obsolete, they'll just be redundant, as all their uses are occupied by other mobs as well, and those mobs have their own unique roles (cows for leather, horses for easier, faster riding).
