Have been wondering if advertising is the right career path for me. Questions inside.

Sorry, another one of those "been seeing some posts on here that scare the hell out of me" posts. Anyways, I plan on beginning to study advertising when I transfer colleges next year. I have been having a hard time deciding what I want to do for the rest of my life, this will be my third time switching my major. The fact is, I need to decide what I want to study now because I can't financially afford to waste any more time in college deciding what I want to do. Advertising caught my eye as an interesting profession that seemed like no one day would be the same. Monotony just isn't for me.

Let me just get the thing out there that worries me the most: the long hours. I understand that sometimes a job will interfere with your personal life but by the way people make it sound on here you will have no personal life whatsoever. I also understand that you may need to put in long hours at first to work your way up, which I'm perfectly okay with doing. But not for my whole career. I plan on raising a family and being there for my kids.

Anyways, any advice for someone like me in the field of advertising? Or do you recommend I look into something else? I'm really interested in the work and I am willing to work hard for it, but long hours and low pay are a big turn off for me.

On a side not, two professions that interest me in the field are account planning an copywriter, among others. (Yes I know those are generally long hour jobs)
