It's amazing how much can change in one year!

New to reddit, so if this doesn't belong here let me know and I apologize...

Anyway, I just wanted to share with everyone how much things can change in a year. No matter how bad things may seem to be right now, always keep your head up. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

A year ago at this point I was nearing the end of my senior year in high school. The only people I was out to were my parents and my ex-best friend who had stopped talking to me, and I later realized I was completely in love with. Since I was in the closet completely there was no one I could talk to. I didn't really feel comfortable with the people on my sports team and never imagined myself as being "out" anytime soon.

Fast forward a year later. Sure it's been a rocky road, but I am completely "out" in college. Everyone in my dorms and all of my teammates on my club sports team at college know I'm gay. I have made many great lasting friendships, and although I have yet to found anyone that I would want to have a relationship with, I couldn't feel more alive.

So I just wanted anyone out there struggling with accepting themselves or worrying if others will accept them to know that IT GETS BETTER. Out of all the people I've told, I have had ZERO negative reactions. Granted not all in my family know, and I am in a fairly liberal college, but it's still amazing. One year ago, if you told me I would be confident enough to plan to come out in my speech class for my gay marriage speech next week, I wouldn't believe you. I have been in your situation. Not only was I on a sports team, but I attended an all male catholic school, so I've encountered all kinds of people.

I guess in a way this is an introduction haha. I just wanted to share my story so that maybe one person reading this could relate and not feel so alone. I'm here to make friends, so feel free to contact me if you have any questions :)
