How do I properly clean my new ear piercing?

I've just got my firsts done, and my piercer said do NOT twist or turn them which I obviously am not going to do. However, when cleaning I used a cotton bud and the saline solution I was given for aftercare. All I did was swab around the piercing on the back and front and i didn't do it very hard, just lightly but I have read on some websites to submerge the ear in the solution. Not sure what to do as other sites also tell me to twist them (which I definitely won't) so unsure what is reliable or not. These are my firsts on my lobes so I am very new to it all. Thank you! :)
