Too much ammonia in fishless cycle?
Hi everyone,
I have a Fluval Edge 6 gallon with some plants: Anubias, Lobelia Cardinalis (not sure if this is fully aquatic, tbh), Red Ludwiga, Melon Sword, Wendelov Ferns, Moneywort (I think), Marimo Moss Ball, and some sort of "long fern" looking thing.
My Val Tail (?), Anacharis, Water Sprite, and Cabomba have all melted and died. I'm not sure if I should pull the roots out or see if they'll come alive again.
Anyway, I poured too much ammonia in while starting a fishless cycle. I think it's around 8.0ppm+ because the API test results shows a dark nearly opaque blue. I took about a gallon of water out and it's a lighter blue however still darker than the darkest green on the card. There is also a bottle of Tetra Safestart in there.
Should I let the water continue to cycle or should I change more water? My point in listing the plants was to find out if they'd benefit from the ammonia or help speed up the cycle.
TL;DR: Have a bunch of plants in 6 gallon tank with Tetra Safestart, put too much ammonia in-- readings at 8+ppm. Should I change the water again or let the plants + TSS do its job?
